The idea of walking 10,000 steps a day was invented as part of a marketing campaign for an early pedometer(that measures the number of steps) ahead of the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. The Japanese character for 10,000 looks rather like a person walking so the device was called the Manpo-kei or 10,000 steps meter. And this is the origin of 10k steps.
Then how much is the ideal number of steps to cover in a day? Different researches say different numbers starting from 4000 onward based on your body type and age. But what is important is to have an active lifestyle. A combination of brisk Walking, Yoga, strength training all these help you achieve the good health of the body.
