(8 Jun 1976) President Josep Broz Tito of Yugoslavia arrived in Ankara on Tuesday (June 8) on an official visit to Turkey. The two countries are not immediate neighbours, but Belgrade and Ankara are both central to major political developments in South-Eastern Europe. Tito then met Turkish government and opposition leaders, principally the Prime Minister, Suleiman Demirel, and the opposition leader, Bulent Ecevit.
