The soldier's song ,,Es ist so schön Soldat zu sein, Rosemarie" is perhaps even one of the best-known german military songs.
Nowadays, the song tragically suffers from an ambivalent reputation, as it was composed in the early 1930s by the most popular marching musician of the Third Reich, Herms Niel.
However, after the end of the Second World War, unlike other songs, the song was not banned and has happily become part of the standard repertoire of the new Bundeswehr.
This is NOT a Wehrmacht song! There is NO connection to National Socialism!
Translated text:
1. It's so nice to be a soldier, Rosemarie,
Not every day brings sunshine, Rosemarie,
But you, you are my talisman, Rosemarie,
You lead the way in everything, Rosemarie.
Soldiers are soldiers
In words and in deeds,
They know no lumpiness
And are loyal only to one girl,
Valleri, vallera, valleral-lala!
Rosemarie!
2. Two years go by so fast, Rosemarie,
And when I'm with you again, Rosemarie,
Then I'll kiss you and tell you, Rosemarie,
From now on, darling, you're mine, Rosemarie.
Soldiers are soldiers
In words and in deeds,
They know no lumpiness
And are loyal only to one girl,
Valleri, vallera, valleral-lala!
Rosemarie!
It was sung and played by Die Alten Kameraden.
