(23 Aug 2017) U.S. President Donald Trump's political rally in Phoenix was met with divisiveness as dozens of protestors took to the streets.
A day of noisy but largely peaceful protests turned unruly after his speech, as police fired pepper spray at crowds after someone apparently lobbed rocks and bottles at officers.
Security was tight outside the Phoenix Convention Center, with lines of police making sure the protesters and Trump supporters were kept well apart.
The Phoenix Fire Department treated dozens of people for heat exhaustion and dehydration in the downtown area where President Donald Trump addressed a rally of supporters.
The 56 people treated for heat-related symptoms in the area of the Phoenix Convention Center on Tuesday included two people officers and the officers were among 12 people transported to hospitals for evaluation.
None of the people treated or transported were related to post-rally activities during which police used pepper spray and gas to disperse a crowd of protesters who remained in the area after the evening rally.
Trump is on a two-day trip to the west, which continues Wednesday with travel to an American Legion convention in Reno, Nevada. He began his Arizona visit Tuesday with a brief trip to the southern edge of the country, touring a Marine Corps base in Yuma that is a hub of operations for the U.S. Border Patrol.
