According to closing statements made by the attorney for Travis McMicheal, thefts in the neighborhood led to the incident, claiming that the defendant acted in self-defense after being allegedly attacked by Ahmaud Arbery near Brunswick in Glynn County, Georgia.
The jury who heard testimony in the case of the Ahmaud Arbery shooting in Georgia reached a verdict in the case. Travis McMichael, his father, Gregory McMichael and their neighbor, William "Roddie" Bryan were all found guilty in the murder of Ahmaud Arbery in a Georgia state court.
The man who fatally shot Ahmaud Arbery, Travis McMichael, was convicted in a federal court for the killing. A federal judge sentenced him to 10 years in prison on federal hate crime charges. He and his co-defendants, his father, Gregory McMichael and their neighbor, William "Roddie" Bryan, were all sentenced to life in prison.
Ahmaud Arbery’s mother, Wanda Cooper-Jones, spoke to the press outside a courthouse after Gregory McMichael was sentenced to life in prison, plus seven years. She believes justice has been served.
