When I was young, I was told that blind people had a greater capacity for hearing, sense of smell, taste and touch. I have always found that to be fascinating and in fact, it's true! This is due to neuroplasticity: the ability of the brain to form and reorganize synaptic connections, especially in response to learning or experience. Experience such as a controlled, temporary blindness.
When such a state is induced on purpose, the results can be experienced and controlled. I have been doing this since I was very young, because I was curious about how this process took place. I have found it to be a very perceptually awakening exercise and I would recommend it to anyone who is looking to experiment with perception and explore this hidden nuance to us all.
