I was a founding member of Harbourside Cohousing, where I've lived since 2016. I've worked as a community building facilitator with Cohousing Development Consulting. After seven academic books, I've enjoyed writing for local newspapers, alternative magazines, and Pacific Yachting which, with a circulation of 60,000, reaches far more readers than my books ever did.

Earlier, I spent twenty-five years as a professor of Social Anthropology at York University in Ontario. I first discovered the importance of community led housing through my field research with Vanuatu villagers in the South Pacific. A contributor to academic housing discourse, I authored and edited books on housing cooperatives, customary land tenure, colonial history, and development issues."
