The name of the band itself has no exact translation into Spanish or English, but understanding some concepts of Maya mythology, it is possible to obtain an interpretation. According to Maya cosmogony, the universe was divided into 13 "heavens" or levels, where the earth is the lowest and last of the "heavens"; below them, there are the 9 "hells" (or in Maya: Xibalba) where the last and lowest level of the universe was the Mitnal where Ah Puch (in some writings also appears as Yum Kimil) the god of death and war reside. Xulub is a Mayan word meaning "devil", so Xulub Mitnal could be interpreted as: "Demon from Hell (or underworld)."
