Fossil Cliffs Maria Island - WOW
The fossil cliffs are where they mined for limestone to produce cement in the 1920s. It is very evident where the quarry was and it is incredibly interesting. Even more interesting was climbing down to the natural rock shelf at sea level. Every single rock (even mammoth boulders) appeared to be all shells. I have never seen anything like it. Such a rich abundance of fossilised shells. They estimate the fossil rich limestone and siltstone to be about 16m thick.
Even to the uninformed this place was incredible. I can only imagine what it would mean to those that study fossilised remains. It is definitely a place that needs to be seen to be believed.
