Can I lose a tampon inside me?

Here’s another myth you may have heard…
No, tampons cannot get lost in your body!
✋🏻They will either be stuck somewhere behind your cervix or they have fallen out!
🤔Another possibility is that you may have forgotten you removed it!

That being said, we certainly do get called to retrieve stuck tampons. This may happen if you forgot it was inserted on the last day of your period, so it stays inside for the rest of the month.

🙋🏼‍♀️Retained tampons can be removed by your GP, or sometimes by a gynaecologist in A&e if it’s particularly tricky because of the position.

😷Signs of a retained tampon is usually a prominent smell coming from the vagina (weeks of discharge, old blood and often intercourse-related fluids too!).

In bad scenarios, a retained tampon can cause toxic shock syndrome so it’s very important to get it removed promptly!
