Crowded House took to the stage at Gibbston Valley Wintery, Queenstown on a beautiful Autumn day, for the third gig of their 'To The Island' New Zealand tour. The new lineup had managed to record the main tracks for the new album in Los Angeles before getting shut down by Covid. They reunited a few weeks ago for rehearsals, and took the show on the road.
This is a particularly special day on so many levels.
1. because we can party and mingle in the knowledge that Covid isn’t loose in NZ. (Thanks to the leadership and efforts of the team of 5 million)
2. I have a long time love for the music of Crowded House dating back to Woodface and seeing them live in 1991 at The Stadium in Dublin.
3. It’s my Dad’s Birthday. Happy Birthday Dave, I hope this video brings some joy into your day, despite being in lockdown back in Dublin...it’s the 13th March here, and will still be by the time I upload this video.
4. I know so many Crowded House fans around the world who’ve had their gigs cancelled and feel incredibly bummed to miss out. This is my way of connecting with you. I hope you enjoy it.
I can’t help feeling immense gratitude to Crowded House too of course. Every time I think of each of these points it makes me happy/ emotional.
So much gratitude.
Thanks Neil, Nick, Liam, Elroy and Mitchell for a lifetime of connection through wonderful music. I think you guys are just as grateful to be free, wandering the streets and getting up on stage each evening during this tour.
Enjoy
Apologies for the sound peaking. New camera...testing it out, and didn't set the input volume low enough. Lesson learnt. Had a lot more footage to show, but out of respect for the music I can't do it. Almost threw this lot in the bin when I heard it at home (aargh)...there's no headphone jack on the Sony RX100 vii to check the levels.... but this is operator error. It's a great camera for lightweight adventures or GIGS!!
