Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and Intersex (LGBTQI+) Pride Month is celebrated each year in the month of June to honor the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in Manhattan; a tipping point for the Gay Liberation Movement in the United States. This month-long celebration demonstrates how LGBTQI+ Americans have strengthened the United States, by using their talent and creativity to help create awareness and goodwill. In this program, Mr. Richard Roberts, Public Affairs Officer at the U.S. Consulate General in Naha, together with Japanese experts such as Lower House Diet Member OTSUJI Kanako, Marriage for All Japan Executive Director TERAHARA Makiko, and Head of Prime Services Japan, Goldman Sachs, YANAGISAWA Masakazu discussed both countries’ efforts to advance LGBTQI rights, the challenges that remain, and the opportunities for U.S.-Japan collaboration to jointly create a more inclusive society.
