Recorded live at the Esplanade Concert Hall, 13 January 2017.
In celebration of Music Director Lan Shui’s 20th SSO season in 2016/17, we take a walk down memory lane, revisiting his inaugural concert of January 1997. More than 200 years after its premiere, Beethoven’s Fifth – the world’s most famous symphony – still has the power to shock us. It is paired here with the grand Leonore Overture No. 3 and the Piano Concerto No. 4, a piece hailed as one of Beethoven’s most original works.
