A 24-metre-long “Hamas tunnel” replica, a controversial art installation by Dutch-Israeli artist Rachel Meijler, sparked a pro-Palestine protest in the Dutch port city of Rotterdam on Thursday.
The tunnel replica, which allowed visitors to experience simulated sounds and vibrations of bombings, sparked heated but peaceful debates between Palestine and Israel supporters on the streets. Security had been deployed around the art installation but there were no escalations.
Meijler, whose cousin was taken captive and killed on 7 October, said she created the art installation to raise awareness about the plight of Israeli captives in Gaza.
