Of Hermes I sing, the Cyllenian, Argus-slayer,
ruler of Cyllene and Arcadia of the many flocks,
sky-borne messenger of the undying, whom Maia bore,
daughter of Atlantis, conjoined in love with Zeus,
the chaste one, who fled the company of the blessed gods,
dwelling in a shadowy cave, wherein the son of Kronos
conjoined himself with the lovely-haired maiden in the darkness of the night,
while sweet sleep held the white-armed Hera,
hidden from the sight of the immortal gods and mortal men.
Hail, Hermes, giver of favor and messenger, grantor of blessings.
