Taiwan has completed a long-range test flight of its next generation national combat drone, the Teng Yun 2 , this month.
This step was taken in its efforts to strengthen its own defenses and achieve self-sufficiency in weapons production.
Teng Yun 2 took off from Chiashan Air Base in Hualien and flew over the sea for nearly three hours.
The test flights validate Taiwan's progress in drone command and control, Asia Times wrote.
This test is also to verify the performance of the optical equipment and surveillance capabilities of the drone.
The Teng Yun (Clone Rider) is a UAV under development by the National Chung-Shan Institute of Science and Technology of Taiwan.
The Teng Yun is a medium UCAV with a resemblance to the American MQ-1 Predator. It is compatible with the AGM-114 Hellfire. The 2019 defense budget allocated funds to build a significant number of Teng Yun systems.
