Child usually start vocalizing the need to go to the toilet when they are around two years of age and they are ready for toilet training around two and half to three years of age.
Some children may continue to wet their bed as long as five years of age as day time control is achieved before night time control. So, up to the age of five years we need not start any medication and even up to six to seven years.
But if a child has regular bed wetting problem, parents should give the child fluids after six pm and make sure the child visits the bathroom before going to bed and maybe some alarms need to be kept to wake up the child during the night and then to be taken to the bathroom. If it still pursues even before the age of five to seven years, and if there is a strong positive family history, then the child needs to be checked for a condition called nocturnal enuresis. Constipation should be avoided as that results in bed wetting at times. In more than fifty percent of the cases, there is a family history..
