This week on Historic Goals, the protagonist is Iván Zamorano. He joined Real Madrid in the 1992/93 season from Sevilla. He was a very complete forward and, as well as being a great header of the ball, he had an excellent shot with both feet, seeing him lethal in and around the opposition penalty area.
Real Madrid and Deportivo came up against each other at the Santiago Bernabéu three games from the end of the 94/95 season. The Whites beat the Galician team 2-1 thanks to goals from Amavisca and Zamorano, going on to clinch the title mathematically. With 85 minutes on the clock the score stood at 1-1. A long pass from Amavisca was picked up by Zamorano who brought the ball down on his chest before positioning himself to shoot and beat Liaño with a powerful right-footed strike. The Chilean finished the season as pichichi with 28 goals.
Zamorano wore the white shirt for four seasons, in which he played 173 official games and scored 101 goals. In his honous for Real Madrid the highlights are 1 league, 1 Copa del Rey and 1 Spanish Super Cup.
