Tucked deep into a remote part of the Guatemalan jungle, there are giants. Massive temples, lost to history until recently, peak out of the trees and up into the sky. El Mirador is one of the oldest known Mayan cities, and perhaps it was the most spectacular. The secrets it holds may be the key to unlocking our understanding of Mayan civilization. It’s a history that is older and far more complex than we thought – filled with architectural splendor, geo-engineering , blood, and a mysterious royal dynasty called the Snake Kings, who appear in stone carvings throughout Mesoamerica, but whose bodies have never been found.
