As an avid RC pilot I decided to jump at the opportunity to fly a full size plane on my summer 2018 vacation to Acadia NP. The package offered by Scenic Flights of Acadia was the best deal, it included a detailed ground briefing, instruction style walk-around and a 45-50 min flight. The instructor took care of takeoff and landing and I was able to fly everything in-between.
I would have paid the same $199 back at home to fly a real plane, but being able to fly around Mt. Desert Island made it a once in a lifetime experience.
Airport: Hancock County – Bar Harbor
Airplane: Cessna 172 (N52218)
Conditions: Clear, Gusty
I decided to release it unedited as every moment was special to me. If you’d like to jump to a particular spot check out the time stamps below:
00:00 Pictures
00:30 In plane briefing & taxi
14:00 Takeoff
15:30 Flight tour of Mt. Desert Narrows
45:50 Long Final
52:00 Short Final & Landing (Nice landing by my instructor using only 900ft of the 5200’ runway)
53:00 Taxi & Shutdown
Shout-out to youtubers; Trent Palmer, FlightChops & Mike Patey. Their enthusiasm for General Aviation was a big motivator in my decision to give it a shot.
By the way I’m not being paid for this by Scenic flights; the experience was awesome.
