Ulsanbawi is almost the iconic representative of Seoraksan National Park, reaching 873M with it's six granite peaks and a circumference of 4 KM.
On an old record, the name "ULSAN" (meaning "fence mountain") was given because of it "fence-like" appearance. An on some old map it was marked as "Cheongchusan", which mean "wailing sky mountain", would be the comparing of the sound of wind made when blown over the mountain.
The view from the mountain is one of its kind. On a clear day, you can see the East Sea, the village in Sokcho, the Seoraksan National Park scenery and glorious view of the mountain range.
Along the path is an unique hermitage called Gyejoam Hermitage (게조암). The main temple hall look like it is being enclave within the rock and just out in the front is a huge boulder famously called the "rocking rock" sitting on the edge of another gigantic rock. With enough might, you could rock it back and forth. We tried but no... definitely not enough strength.
