6. SOUNDBITE (Russian) Sergei Lavrov, Russian Foreign Minister:
"As to the growing probability of using force to solve this problem, I am certain that this problem cannot be solved by force and that force is not a solution. And practically all European countries share Russia''s position. This has been stated more than once by British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw and foreign ministers of other European Union countries. If such plans exist, about which we have read in the media, they will not be able to resolve the problem. On the contrary, they will only create another hotbed of tension in the Middle East, a region which already has plenty of such hotbeds."

STORYLINE:
Russia''s Foreign Minister said on Tuesday that it would be premature to make any conclusions following Iran''s announcement it had succeeded in enriching uranium for the first time.
Enrichment is a key process that can produce either fuel for a reactor or the material needed for a nuclear reactor.
Sergei Lavrov warned against dramatising the situation and reiterated Moscow''s firm opposition to any military action
against Iran.
"I won''t rush to any hasty conclusions as tensions are raised too often around Iran''s nuclear programme," during a press briefing with his Albanian counterpart, Besnik Mustafaj.
Commenting on reports of US plans for a possible military attack on Iran, Lavrov added, "If such plans exist, about which we have read in the media, they will not be able to resolve the problem. On the contrary, they will only create another hotbed of tension in the Middle East, a region which already has plenty of such hotbeds."
Meanwhile Iran''s parliament speaker on Wednesday said Iran believes the US had "learned lessons" from the war in Iraq and would not "repeat the same mistake."
Speaking at a regional Islamic conference in Istanbul, Gholam-Ali Haddad-Adel said Iran''s nuclear programme complied with the rules set by the UN nuclear watchdog and the nuclear non-proliferation treaty (NPT).
