Nurse Educator and IVF patient demonstrates how to locate and inject into your own ventrogluteal muscle! The ventrogluteal is the preferred site for injection as opposed to the dorsogluteal, which is what many IVF clinics (unfortunately) advise their patients. There is a lot of evidence out there advising against the use of the dorsogluteal muscle, and yet many clinics and nurses still use it.
The "ventrogluteal" muscle is comprised of the gluteus medius & gluteus minimus. There are no major blood vessels or nerves that run in this area, as opposed to the sciatic nerve that is in the region of the dorsogluteal muscle.
This video can be helpful for anyone who needs to self-administer any medication, whether it is progesterone in oil (like I am doing), testosterone, estrogen, steroids or anything else. I hope you find this helpful!
