Five years ago, convicted murderers Richard Matt and David Sweat escaped from the maximum security Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora, New York, with help from Joyce Mitchell, the prison's tailor. That prison break became one of the most notorious manhunts in recent history.
The manhunt drew national attention, and even became a critically acclaimed Showtime series called "Escape at Dannemora" starring Patricia Arquette, Paul Dano and Benicio del Toro, and was directed by Ben Stiller. Despite the Hollywood treatment, these were very real people that terrorized a rural region in upstate New York for weeks before they were found.
Stewart Ledbetter at @mynbc5-wptz972 was working when news of the escape broke, and looks back on the weeks-long manhunt that turned upstate new York upside down.
