Green Book is a 2018 American comedy-drama film about a tour of the Deep South in the 1960s by Jamaican-American classical pianist Don Shirley (Mahershala Ali) and New York bouncer Tony Lip (Viggo Mortensen), who served as Shirley's driver and security. Directed by Peter Farrelly, the screenplay was written by Lip's son Nick Vallelonga, as well as Brian Hayes Currie and Peter Farrelly. The film had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2018, where it won the People's Choice Award. It is scheduled to be released in the United States on November 16, 2018, by Universal Pictures. The film received positive reviews from critics, with Ali and Mortensen's performances being lauded.
Synopsis :
A bouncer at a New York nightclub takes a job as a famed black pianist's chauffeur during a tour in the American Deep South, forging a close friendship while navigating the deep racism of the region. The film is named for The Negro Motorist Green Book, usually referred to as "The Green Book", a segregation-era road travel guidebook to help African-Americans dealing with racial discrimination issues and Jim Crow laws, such as whites-only garages, restaurants and hotels refusing services.
