The story of cherry motorcycles familiar from childhood begins in 1929, when the Czech businessman František Janeček begins licensed production of Wanderer motorcycles at his factory.
He didn’t think much over the name of his motorcycles and gathered the brand name from the first letters of his last name and the name of the motorcycle. It turned out JaWa. The first model of Java had
500 cm3 engine, was quite complicated, expensive and not in demand.
In 1932, the Jawa plant revealed to the world its own development - a lightweight motorcycle with a 175-cc engine; in 1934-35, it started production of models with 250 and 350 "cubes" engines.
In the pre-war history of the brand there were many interesting moments, but Jawa won a complete victory over its customers in 1946.
In 1946, the new Java 250 created a sensation at an exhibition in Paris, winning a gold medal. For the softness of the course the bike was nicknamed "Perak" (springy).
Buyers demanded a more powerful motorcycle. And already in 1950, a half-liter engine was prepared in Java and from 1952 mass production of Java 500 began!
The engine was air cooled, a four-stroke, two-cylinder power of 26 hp!
