In the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia, recent reports indicate a significant development on the frontline.
Russian forces have suffered a substantial blow, losing more than 1,000 soldiers in just 24 hours. This report comes amid intense fighting in several key regions.
the Ukrainian military reports that Russian forces have lost 1,030 soldiers, either killed or wounded, on the frontline in Ukraine all in past 24 hours. Additionally, the Ukrainian forces have destroyed 48 Russian artillery systems and 23 armored combat vehicles. Since Russia's full-scale invasion began in February 2022, Ukraine estimates that Russia has suffered at least 556,650 troop casualties, including both deaths and injuries.
This comes as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has asked NATO allies in Washington to allow Ukraine to use long-range weapons against targets in Russia. He believes this could significantly change the course of the war with Russia.
Zelensky’s cabinet chief told a public forum Russia had no restrictions on its use of weapons and it would be “a real game-changer” if Ukraine‘s allies could lift all limits on the use of those they supply to Ukraine.
At a summit in Washington on Wednesday, NATO members made a declaration supporting Ukraine. They promised more aid and pledged to support Ukraine's journey to becoming a NATO member.
On the other hand, China has cautioned NATO against escalating conflict amid accusations from the Western military alliance that Beijing is a key supporter of Russia's actions in Ukraine. This warning was issued on Thursday as NATO leaders gathered in Washington, DC. They pledged to strengthen defenses for Ukraine and Europe against Russia, while also highlighting China as a growing concern for the alliance.
Though, China, which has deepened strategic ties with Russia, has refused to condemn Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine. It has presented itself as a neutral party in the war and says it is not sending lethal assistance to either side, unlike the US and other Western nations.
Beijing, however, has offered a critical lifeline to Russia’s isolated economy, with trade booming since the conflict began.
