Marshall Livingstone, GUNK Brand Manager with Dr. Larry Beaver discuss GUNK engine degreasing products.
For general light duty cleaning and removal of dust and dirt from an engine we recommend using the foamy engine cleaner. For a heavier, greasier layer on an engine that has maybe had an oil leak, use the original degreaser. When there is really heavy caked on build up, use the heavy duty gel engine degreaser that clings to the surface, penetrates the grease and lifts it off. Then of course when you're finished with any of these degreasers, you would use the engine protector. That leaves behind a shine and it also conditions the plastics and rubber parts.
Engines are water tight; they have been designed to withstand water spray from cleaning. Generally speaking when you are cleaning an engine, you should cover up an air intake to keep water from being sprayed in when rinsed with a hose. Be sure to check the GUNK gauge on the back of the can to determine the level of GUNK engine degreaser needed. For more advice and tips visit PepBoys.com.
