Daniel Hope received the OPUS Klassik Award for his project Hope@Home that brought music and hope to many people during the lockdown of 2020 with concert streams from Daniel Hope’s own home in Berlin and gave many musicians the opportunity to perform when concert halls were closed.
In the ceremony of OPUS Klassik, Daniel Hope played the famous traditional Irish ballad “Danny Boy“ from his latest album “Hope” – which is also a childhood favorite for him. “Danny Boy is very much connected to my musical DNA and also my DNA in general – my father’s side is from Ireland. We used to sing this song all the time. It became the anthem of the family. So, I think about the family and the feeling of being together very much.”, Hope says. The exceptional circumstances of coronavirus lockdowns were the motivation for Hope to record this song: “At a time, where we were not able to be together… For me, it is a chance to send that message to many people out there who were not able to be with their families and people they love.”
