Session Description
We will review the concept of maternal immunization and the history of the development of vaccines for immunization of pregnant women for the improvement of maternal and newborn health worldwide. Through a review of the lessons learned from the research and implementation of maternal vaccination with tetanus, influenza, and pertussis vaccine, we will recognize the important role of maternal immunization in maternal and child health, and the impact of this strategy in reducing infant morbidity and mortality.
We will review the current status of research of novel vaccines for maternal immunization, including RSV and GBS, and discuss the future of this intervention in public health.
