SOLVED - Fuel Level Senders being rotten giving false reading on the gas. If your car has more than 10 years and drinks from shitty gasoline (which is unfortunately my case on my country where gasoline is horrible quality even paying top bucks) your fuel senders will start causing some wrong readings on the volume of fuel left on tank.
My W202, year 1998 C280 (M112 engine and 722.6 transmission) is still giving me trouble. After an initial service at the local MB specialist and STAR dignosis the following items were checked: Accelerator Pedal sensor (changed for a new one), new Beru spark-plugs, complete fluid change, engine oil, filter, transmission fluid and filter, engine valve covers opened and cleaned, new gaskets, new rubber coupling on driveshaft, and very important new fuel pump and filter.
After this I only drove about 60 km and last saturday after a short 40 minute drive inside the city the car gave sign of failing acceleration and then completely lost power and shut-down. No chance it would re-start. On the next morning I cranked and started to behave this way, completely rough idle, sometimes correcting itself but never stabilizing again.
I suspect the Crankshaft Position Sensor is gone, and I don't know if a have a failing ETA/TBI too (hope not!).
Any clues are welcome!
