A new world record passenger train on narrow-gauge railway was successfully assembled and operated by the Swiss Rhaetian Railway (Rhätische Bahn aka RhB) on October 29, 2022 on the UNESCO world heritage Albula railroad stretch from Preda to Alvaneu, via Bergün and Filisur. This short video shows the train crossing the world-famous Landwasser Viaduct, the Schmitten Viaduct and is about to enter shortly the final destination of Alvaneu station. This new world record was meanwhile certified and confirmed by officials from the "Guinness Book of Records".
Some numbers and facts:
- 24'930m is the lenght of the railroad stretch covered
- 780m descended the train in altitude, starting in Preda
- 48 bridges were crossed
- 22 tunnels were traversed
- 25 Capricorn Stadler Rail train compositions (4 cars each) were put together
- 4550 official seats boasts this world record passenger train of which 150 were used
- 35'000 hp is the nominal power output of this huge train
- 2'990'000 kg or 2'990 tons weighs the train. The empty weigh is 2'850 tons
- 1'910m long is this train in total
- 7 conductors and 21 technicians were needed to operate this new world record setting train
