(international docu)
A Dutch investigative journalist/documentary-maker (Arnold-Jan Scheer) finds the truth about the mythical figure Black Pete. Why he is black and why people all over the Indo-European continent and England, paint their faces black. These disguises are omnipresent in Europe. He digs in his past and provides new historical evidence that this is part of Europe's cultural history and Indo-European heritage.
This international documentary is about very old folk culture that still exists in isolated and previously remote places in Europe, such as in high mountain valleys, forest areas or on islands. The documentary maker discovers in previously mostly isolated and remote places such as on islands, in high mountain valleys (far from the dominant culture) rituals that originate from before Christianity.
What strikes him are the many disguises in animals in these rituals. Early writings of the Catholic Church forbade and demonised them. But he films them nowadays in all countries of Europe. Especially in the Alps, the Pyrenees, Czech Republic, Italy, the North Sea islands and Sardinia. They look primitive and are often ecstatic.
