When the seme border was shut in 2019, all transnational trade along the corridor was brought to a halt. It was reopened eventually but ban on some major items remains.
On this episode of the programme we visited Seme border and nearby communities where we spoke with indegenes, traditional head, officials of the customs, licensed enced agents, and eventually joined an anti-smuggling surveillance operation.
At asipa community, a village sits at the fringe of the sea, the traditional head of the community says his people have little or nothing to show for the community’s nearness to the border.
Badagry, the neighbouring town to the border is known for tourism because of its beautiful coastline, slave trade relics, and other historical interests. Now recreational businesses are even struggling, we also visited a facility owned by the lagos state government.
