Hey! Here's a music video! And a story:
Earlier this winter, I was asked to be part of a friend’s end-of-year recital at Mount Allison, and they suggested we do a song we’d previously done at a university Open House a few years before - Craig Cardiff’s “Safe Here”. This song had become part of my on-campus repertoire over the years, for its perfect singalong chorus and its message of hope and optimism. I used to introduce it as “a song about how things are bad, but not that bad,” and I think that’s an important thing to keep in mind - it’s not all good, sure, but there’s so much good around anyway.
And then, everything happened - campus closed, and nearly everyone’s recitals got canceled. But, a little pandemic won’t stop me, Christina, and so many other musicians and artists from putting good tunes into the world.
So, here’s one small part of Christina’s virtual recital - a cover of Craig Cardiff’s “Safe Here,” recorded in each of our homes, and filmed in each of our backyards! Special thanks to my roommates Amy Ward and Amber LeBlanc for joining me in the video, to Craig Cardiff for writing such a great and timely song, and to Christina for inviting me to be a part of their recital - I couldn’t have asked for a better partner on this project, and it’s the MOST fun I’ve had all month!
