I built a Geiger Counter Station and tested it with REAL Radium! This Counter has been designed to be active h24, if necessary and it can be powered with a small 12V battery. It has a visual alarm (LED) and sound alarm (Buzzer) detects radiation γ and β in range of 20mR/h ~ 120mR/h of gamma rays and 100 ~ 1800 off variables/points/cm 2 of the soft beta ray.
● What is a Geiger Counter?
A Geiger counter is an instrument used for detecting and measuring ionizing radiation, it is widely used in applications such as radiation dosimetry, radiological protection, experimental physics, and the nuclear industry. What you see in this video is not a portable device but to be kept hanging in the Laboratory.
● Natural Radioactive Background:
In the absence of radioactive material it is possible that the geiger counter emits small sounds, this detection you hear is the normal natural radioactive background. The natural background is due to the sun, stars and cosmic background noise. is harmless and is the only safe source of radioactivity to test your instrument.. But in this video I will something dangerous, I'll try it with some RADIUM!
● About my Nuclear TEST ☢️
For the test I will use an old Clock as a radioactive sample, this is possible because the brown substance on clock hands and next to the hours is, unfortunately, Radium Paint. Who decided to use radium in the paint, created a beautiful but lethal substance... in the past it wasn't known that radioactivity was toxic. What I did in this video is very dangerous, don't do it too, and if you should have one of these clocks in your home (table or wrist) please dispose of it as soon as possible according to the laws of your country.
● Radium & Paint with Radium:
Radium is a chemical element with the symbol Ra and atomic number 88 and it is a radioactive element! Radium was discovered by Marie and Pierre Curie in 1898 - In fact the word Radioactivity derives from the name of this element. Paints containing Radium were used from years 1920 to 1960.. and this because it emitted light and no one was aware of their toxicity.
