Pasi Paruppu Payasam is a delicious healthy dish made from Moong Dal, Jaggery and Coconut Milk. It’s a South Indian Cuisine served as dessert. Pasi Paruppu Payasam is made during festivals, pooja or auspicious occasion.
It’s a simple and easy dish if we have some unexpected guest . Main ingredients in the Moong Dal, Jaggery, Coconut Milk, Ghee, Nuts, Cardamom Powder.
INGREDIENTS
Moong Dal - ¾ cup
Jaggery - 1 cup
Water - 2 ½ cups
Coconut Milk - ½ cup
Ghee - 1 tbsp
Cashew Nuts - 15
Raisins - 50
Coconut Slices - 45g
Cardamom Powder - ½ tsp
COOKING METHOD
1. Dry roast the moong dal for 2-3 minutes.
2. Add water(2 1/4 cup, approx), pressure cook up to 5 whistles or until dal turns soft.
3. Add ghee in the pan, roast raisins first until it comes pops up then roast cashew nuts and finally roast the coconut slices. Remove and set aside.
4. In a pan take jaggery and 1/4 cup of water, stir and dissolve jaggery completely.
5. Add cooked moong dal into the jaggery syrup. Stir well until the jaggery syrup bubbles up and thickens a bit.
6. Add the coconut milk, stir well and cook for about a min or two.
7. Now add the roasted raisins, cashew nuts and coconut slices and cardamom powder and stir well.
8. Moong Dal Payasam is ready.
