Review:
I have a lot of Dolce & Gabbana. The fit is good, and everything is well made. The price has slowly crept up the past couple years however, and I find myself buying less and less. I don’t want to say it’s overpriced as the material quality has increased on some items, but there was never a quality problem before. In fact some Dolce pre 2011 when the two lines merged into one was better than it is today. Luckily this isn’t a problem for me as I’ve amassed quite a collection that doesn’t need to be replaced because everything was made to last. This jacket is a perfect example of that.
While this jacket is 2 years old, most items made out of this rougher coarse wool tend not to wear well. Often you find a lot of pilling happens after only a couple wears and the elastic ribbing starts to lose it’s spring. Not so with this jacket. I’ve worn this a fair bit and have not noticed any visible wear as of yet. The material does lend itself to picking up fluff however, so you need to take some tape and remove everything by hand once in a while. The ribbing is still flawless. I’m not sure how the process works of blending the wool with synthetics, but they do a good job. The ribbing is soft, yet hold it’s shape well. There has been no reduction in elastic-ness in the cuffs even after wearing the sleeves rolled up.
The material itself is surprisingly thick. The jacket has a fairly sleek silhouette considering how thick it is. In fact, it really looks more like a zipped up sweater. Despite it’s looked the wool does have a fair bit of weight to it and is perfectly fine to wear down to 5 degrees or so. The weight of the fabric allows the jacket to keep its’ shape without needing any stiffeners/canvas/padding.
I like that this jacket is fully lined and has two internal pockets. The pockets have zip closure as well which is important for me. This jacket is meant to be very casual perfect for outdoor fall activities. With zip pockets you can be sure your phone and cards will stay secure while moving/jumping around. The lining itself has a nice jacquard pattern woven in to add a little bit of flair as well.
My only complaint is the zipper is a little tough. Mind you this is a problem on all designer clothes. Something about the size/polish of the teeth really make them difficult. No idea why. Balmain jackets are notoriously hard to zip up.
This is an all around great casual jacket for spring and fall. It’s not meant to be unique like my Dsquared tux from a couple weeks ago. It’s meant to be worn on a brisk morning walk in the park.
