Pro-female advertising, or “femvertising,” is important to SheKnows, as a women’s lifestyle media brand. Since more women watch the Super Bowl than the Oscars, Emmys and Grammys combined (source: Nielsen 2014), we wanted to examine these ads through that lens. This was a perfect workshop theme for our Hatch program, where we teach kids media literacy and digital storytelling. We thought it was interesting to look at the depiction of women in Super Bowl 2015 ads and understand how that impacts teenage girls.
