Excellent to see construction well underway on the Eddleston path, a project born out of many years of work by Peebles Community Trust, Sustrans, Eddleston Community Council and Peebles Community Council.

Can this motivate a step-change and much greater level of ambition and urgency? I recently read a 2013 feasibility study for similar paths linking Peebles to Broughton, Biggar and Tweedsmuir. We could reclaim the safe walking, wheeling, and riding that used to be possible and enjoyable before cars came to dominate our roads.

Cars absolutely have their place in the transport mix, but as much for the pleasure and health benefits as for the necessity of combating climate collapse, we need to act much more swiftly in developing safe active travel connections between our villages and towns.

If elected, I will make this - and the improvement of our bus services - one of my top priorities.
