In Vancouver, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announces a $1.4 billion federal loan to the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation) to build close to 3,000 homes on traditional lands in the city’s Kitsilano neighborhood. The project aims to be the largest net-zero residential development in Canada. Also taking part in the announcement are federal ministers Ahmed Hussen (housing, diversity and inclusion) and Patty Hajdu (Indigenous services), MP Hedy Fry (Vancouver Centre) and B.C. MLA David Eby (Vancouver–Point Grey), as well as members of the Squamish Nation. The prime minister faces questions from reporters concerning stabbing attacks that took place in Saskatchewan on September 4, wherein ten people were killed in various locations around James Smith Cree Nation and Weldon.
