The aurora borealis (northern lights) were particularly vivid in many parts of the world on the night of April 23-24 due to a rare geomagnetic storm. Viral footage from Cantwell, Alaska, shows a ‘truly spectacular and awe-inspiring’ aurora.
In fact, the storm’s effect was so powerful that fainter, but still very noticeable, glimpses of the northern lights were seen much further south in places like Toronto, Minnesota, Wyoming, and Iowa.
