** Lick it up was one of my first KISS songs. I didn't know much about the band when I first heard it, but I liked it and it helped me want to learn more about the band. I didn't even know that Peter and Ace weren't on it at all.
As you can see, I'm wearing my KISS shirt from the End of the Road Tour (EOTR). I chose that shirt over my destroyer one since the song obviously doesn't come off of destroyer.
A little about tabbing the song and playing it:
I found the 16th notes were easiest when I held the pick with my index and middle finger like gene does. A lot of his bass lines seem easier holding it that way (Namely Detroit Rock City).
In all the chorus' I see in every live video, Gene plays the half notes I put in the tab. It's also what I hear on the original track, but a lot of tabs have 8th notes there. Took me a while to figure out. The second half of the Chorus, I hear them as quarter notes.
Gene also likes to spice up the song a lot live to make it more interesting to play and to listen to. I'm sticking to what I hear on the track because that's what I expect people want to learn. Right before the chorus, I hear half notes and sometimes quarter note on the G and D. I was expecting 8th notes there, and you'll probably play those as 8th notes live, but I put what I hear into the tab. Once you learn the song, you can spice it up however you want. I do look at the live performances if I can't tell what a part is.
In the chorus, right before the G and D half notes, Gene spices it up live (not studio). Check it out, It's pretty cool what you can do to make it more interesting (:

The bass is so low in the mix that it's hard to hear what he does well. It's also pretty famously just open A throughout most of the song. Gene even does clinics on the KISS Kruises using this song for the people who buy his bass having them play just the open A. You can easily change it to be 5 on the E, and transition up and octave and then back down during the verses like Gene tends to do live. This song is pretty easy to add in extra bits if you want something more fun.
Thanks for watching! Enjoy :)
