Lecture Series on NeuroScience (LSNS) organized by Computational Neuroscience Lab at IIT-Madras (CNSLAB@IITM)
Title of the talk: The Application of Sensory Manipulations to Motor Rehabilitation and Diagnostics
Speaker: Dr. Belen Ballester (Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia)
Overview of the talk: The recovery of motor function after suffering a brain injury is still poorly understood. There are complex interactions between principles of motor learning and motor recovery, which guide neural reorganization and allow the reacquisition and restitution of goal-oriented motor patterns. This talk will review a number of studies and applications capitalizing on these principles and implementing the manipulation of visuomotor feedback for the delivery of efficient neurorehabilitation and diagnostics in the fields of stroke and other neurological disorders.
Biography of the Speaker: Belén Rubio Ballester is a senior researcher at the Synthetic Perceptive Emotive Cognitive Systems Lab (SPECS) of the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC), team leader of the Neurorehabilitation area, Chief Scientific Officer at Eodyne Systems S.L., and associate professor at Universitat Pompeu Fabra and Universitat Oberta de Catalunya. She has a background on computational science, development of VR- based solutions for value-based healthcare, clinical validation, and a track-record in neurorehabilitation.
