Isla Holbox, with its dirt roads, stray dogs & laid back Bohemian vibes, is one of the most quaint destinations in the Yucatan Peninsula .

We adored our time here!
The best things we did in Isla Holbox (in no particular order):
•Watched the sunsets!
Holbox is the only place in Caribbean Mexico where you can see the sun set over the sea. The best place to experience it is at the southern end of Playa Punta Cocos. But we saw it on the Punta Mosquito side too! Every night! It’s gorgeous! Find a spot on the sand & watch the sun fade from deep orange to cherry red.
•Enjoyed the festivities of Carnaval!
As luck would have it, we just happened to arrive on the first day of Carnaval 2023! Feb.17-21. Every night was a party! The locals wore elaborate costumes & had parades & dance parties in the street with energy that ignited our Spirits!
•Walk the sandbar to Punta Mosquito! Paradise! White-sand beaches & shallow clear tide pools! No hotels for miles, no sound but the music of the waves. Punta Mosquito reserve is perfect! *It’s a long walk from the hotel zone. Be sure to begin walking back before the tide rises or you’ll be walking back in the middle of the ocean. 😂
•Rent a golf cart & explore the island!
Holbox is 26 miles long. Most visitors see a lot by bike, but if you’re in a hurry – or if you’re just tired from walking to Punta Mosquito the day before 🤷🏽‍♀️- you can rent a cart & drive along the designated dirt roads. We drove to Punta Coco!
•Chill at a Beach Club
We spent 2 of the 7 days we spent here, relaxing in a swinging cabana, at an awesome beach club on the Punta Mosquito side. We paid $400 pesos (roughly $21 USD) per person for the entire day!*Great beach to sunbathe topless! ☺️
•Bioluminescence & Stargazing!
On clear nights when the moon isn’t too bright, you can see the blue bioluminescent plankton light up the ocean. We took a tour! The best time to see it in Holbox is from June – Sept. we still saw & played in it tho!The stars ⭐️ were insanely bright too!
•Horseback Riding!
We rode horses along the island’s lovely beaches on a tour. Combining forest trails & beach time, it was a relaxed way to explore the island’s gorgeous coastline.
