Bullying is nothing new and today’s students are facing challenges we never imagined, from cyberbullying to lock-downs to weapons in schools. B.C. is working hard to ensure our schools are connected – that students are safe and seek help before it becomes overwhelming. The harm, permanent and long-lasting damage that social, emotional, physical and verbal, and cyberbullying can do is unacceptable.
And cyberbullying brings bullying and intimidation right into the home. Enter – the Expect Respect and a Safe Education (ERASE) Bullying strategy. This multipronged bullying and violence prevention strategy focuses on connectedness, mental health, intervention and violence threat risk assessment. The ERASE Bullying strategy led by the Ministry of Education brings together school boards, students, teachers, health care providers, police, mental health, child protection, Crown Counsel and a number of other community partners to prevent bullying and violence in our schools.
