Walking Hamburg Jungfernstieg Alster lake .
The Jungfernstieg runs on the southern edge of the Binnenalster ( this is the small Alsterlake) from Gänsemarkt to Reesendamm. In earlier times, the middle-class families strolled here to show their marriageable daughters. This gave rise to the name Jungfernstieg (Stieg is Low German for Steig which means Way). Today there are shops such as the Alsterhaus, the Apple Store and on the water side the Alster Pavilion, a café and restaurant. The streets Alter Wall and  Neuer Wall with shops of exclusive designers leave from Jungfernstieg.
The Binnenalster is the southern part and with 18 ha the smaller part of the Alster Lake. In the middle of the Binnenalster you can marvel at a water fountain up to 60 m high. In Wintertime this will be replaced by a giant illuminated Christmas tree. So there is something to discover here in every season.
