With our Synology NAS now remotely accessible, we take a look at an alternative method for securely connecting to our home network. So in this video we demonstrate how to install and configure Synology's VPN Server package.
When we make a video, part of our process requires that we find a consistent way to install and configure the application or feature we are covering. While the actual install and configuration of VPN Server was consistent each time we did it. For some reason, we experienced issues when it came to configuring and connecting with a VPN Client.
In total for this video we actually installed and configured VPN Server five times, onto two different models of Synology NAS. However, we were not able to truly find a consistent methodology that would work each time we installed VPN Server.
As we mention in the video, we suspect that there may be an issue with the Bridge that VPN Server needs to create with our NAS. Which in turn is stopping the VPN Server and our home network from being able to talk to each other.
While we were able to get VPN Server and the VPN Clients working each time we installed VPN Server. We suspect that by stopping, and then restarting the VPN Server Package. We force the VPN Server to correctly establish a bridge between itself and our home network.
However, as this is only a working theory and we have no evidence that it will work. If you have followed the instructions in our video, and have successfully got VPN Server working please let us know in the comments.
