In this video Dr. Lili talks about the common dangers kids face around the Fourth of July, specifically consumer fireworks and sparklers. She uses data from the US Consumer Product Safety Commission to illustrate how dangerous fireworks are for children, that they can lead to amputations, permanent blindness, severe injuries, and even death. Dr. Lili explains that the only safe way to enjoy fireworks is to attend a professional display. Dr. Lili chose not to include the graphic images of injuries sustained by fireworks in this video, but recommends that you do a simple google search if you're considering having fireworks at your home-based Fourth of July Celebration. Over 11,000 people are injured yearly by fireworks each year, and the great majority are in the weeks before and after the 4th of July. Please celebrate safely this year and leave the fireworks to the professionals!
