Can omega 3 fatty acids lower your blood pressure?
The researchers of this study reviewed randomized controlled trials which investigated the effects of EPA and DHA on blood pressure (Zhang X, et.al., 2022).
EPA and DHA are both omega-3 fatty acids found in fish oil. There were 4973 participants 18 years old and older.
The optimal intake of omega-3 fatty acids for both systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure reductions was obtained by moderate doses between 2 and 3 g per day which reduced systolic blood pressure by an average of 2.61 mm Hg and diastolic blood pressure by 1.80 mm Hg.
The amounts of EPA and DHA in omega-3 fish oil can vary a lot.
To receive the maximal benefits from your omega 3 fish oil, use a product with higher amounts of EPA and DHA per capsule.
